Service Description
Knowing how to properly mill lumber is a fundamental woodworking skill. This course focuses on understanding wood and the steps to mill a board using machines flat and square. Focus points: 1. Understanding wood types, grain direction, and defects 2. Advantages to milling your own boards 3. Jointer set up and safety 4. Using the jointer to flatten one face and one side 5. Planer set up and safety 6. Using a planer to bring a board to thickness 7. Table saw set up and safety 8. Using a table saw to bring a board to width 9. Miter saw set up and safety 10. Using a miter saw to bring a board to length This is a hands-on class. Each participant will mill a rough board to a four-square state. A list of shop safety rules will be emailed to participants prior to the class date. This class generally lasts between 2-3 hours, dependent upon student All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver once arriving at the shop. FAQs What sort of safety equipment is required? Eye protection is required and ear protection as needed. Both will be available to participants. Closed toe footwear is required. We will refund any ticket requested for any reason up to a week before the course runs, after that point we can only give credit to a future course. If the class cannot run as scheduled, for whatever reason, purchaser will have the option of a full refund or credit towards the makeup course
